The Weakness of Violence

Oct 4, 2026  •  Dr. Garry Brantley

Nahum 3 offers both a warning and a word of hope. The warning is that God takes human violence, injustice, arrogance, and exploitation seriously. No amount of influence, prosperity, institutional strength, or outward success can protect people or communities from God’s righteous scrutiny. The hope is that God is not indifferent to evil. For those who suffer under injustice, “I am against you” means that the Lord sees, remembers, and ultimately confronts what human beings may tolerate or overlook. Nahum therefore calls God’s people to trust God’s justice, resist the seduction of worldly power, and live with humble confidence in the Lord who alone reigns.
